Keeping your computer finely tuned is a necessity borne out of the need to keep the machine running smoothly.
This is essential if it is to perform its functions properly, especially if the PC is used for work.
The key to having a PC finely tuned lies in following a series of maintenance tips that will make any occurences such as system breakdowns, viruses, hanging or slow operation a thing of the past.
The first thing to do is to free up space on the hard disk. This should be done by checking any temporary files that the computer may have created and getting rid of them. They are easy to identify since they have a .chk extension, other temporary files that should also be eliminated include those with a .tmp extension. Graphic files with the extension .jpg or .gif, which could have been created temporarily by the system from the internet, should also be eliminated.
The user can also redeem much space by removing idle software that had been added for a past one-time purpose. Such software may also have been duplicating files without the user’s knowledge hence taking up much space. One can remove these files using Clean Sweep, which is cheap easy to use software that also backs up these files just in case they were deleted accidentally.
The user should scan the system regularly to eliminate any viruses, malware, spy ware or spam threat that could seriously jeopardize the computers operations. Fine tuning one’s PC involves the use of two programs: Scan Disk or Disk Defragmenter if one is operating in the Windows environment. The former locates errors and fixes them while the latter is for ease of data management. Alternatively one can purchase a program that can do this on a weekly basis on its own.
Backing up data is essential in case of a system crash. This can be done through the use of CDs or diskettes though it is better if one were to back up the entire hard disk. Backing up the system should be a regular exercise done preferably every two weeks. Additionally, performing a registry clean up on a regular basis will ensure that the computer does not run unnecessary or malfunctioning software. When these procedures are performed on a regular basis, the PC will be fast, efficient and reliable. One can then be assured of relatively few hitches and even if they occur, one can resort to backed up information.
